These initiatives aim to restore nearly 5 million hectares, equivalent in size to Costa Rica, of marine and coastal ecosystems.

These flagship projects, highlighted at the UN Ocean Conference in Nice, France, are part of the broader UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration, which aims to restore 1 billion hectares globally by 2030. Selected based on stringent criteria aligned with the UN’s restoration principles, these initiatives demonstrate integrated progress in biodiversity protection, climate action, and sustainable livelihoods.
