The National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA) has shut down 25 facilities across Anambra, Enugu, Bayelsa, and Rivers states for breaching environmental regulations. The closures stem from failures to conduct mandatory Environmental Impact Assessments, neglecting proper environmental audits, and lacking functional effluent treatment systems. This aggressive enforcement campaign continues from May, when 21 businesses in the Federal Capital Territory were also closed for similar violations. NESREA’s Director-General, Prof. Innocent Barikor, emphasized that these actions serve both to protect the environment and to deter non-compliant operators.
