The Good Deeds Day Coalition (Kwara Chapter) launched a tree-planting initiative across schools in Kwara State, Nigeria, distributing and planting trees at institutions like Taoheed Secondary School, Forte Credence International School, and ECWA Secondary School in Ganmo, with a goal of planting 1,000 trees statewide in phases. Led by Mrs. Funmilayo Osiegbu, the initiative aims to fulfil UN Sustainable Development Goals 13 and 15 by combating climate change through carbon sequestration, while educating students on environmental stewardship through practical demonstrations and talks about trees’ roles in improving air quality, providing food/shelter, and reducing atmospheric CO₂. The project received support from UNESCO’s National Commission in Nigeria, whose representative, Dr. Lateef Olagunju emphasized trees’ benefits for biodiversity and carbon reduction, while school administrators and students pledged to sustain the efforts through ongoing environmental education.
